Fire and Rescue called the VISAR coordinator with a report of 7 people in the water without lifejackets. Though it seemed a suspicious call, the ‘youths’ were talking on a cell phone, Spirit and Gorda Peak were launched. The ‘persons’ were found drifting west of the Dogs in a dinghy and not in the water as they had reported, having run out of fuel. Thus not only putting their lives at risk but those of the crews who needlessly came to their aid. As they were so young they were transported from the vessel and delivered to the Yacht Harbour. The Police recovered the vessel and impounded it.
