Time of Call: 1210, Time of Launch: No Launch
Call came into the VISAR base from a concerned female in the United States, after a panic call from a family member. The message she received said a suspected stroke had occurred on a local charter boat and the partner did not know what to do. The casualty refused to go for medical treatment. VISAR personnel attempted to call the local casualty. When unable to raise them, VISAR contacted the original caller. The female informed her that the female family member had eventually managed to get the casualty to hospital and he was receiving treatment.
The VISAR Staff member informed the caller that, VISAR crew would have been more than happy to assisit, even if the casualty had been reluctent to receive help. The primary concern is the casualty and then the stress caused to family members in these types of situations. VISAR would rather a misdiagnosis by a layman than not be called at all, as delay can cause further damage.
