At current levels of activity, VISAR needs about $100,000 per annum to adequately meet the needs of the community and those who find themselves in distress. VISAR is funded almost entirely by charitable donation, and relies very heavily on the financial support of the local community, visitors to the British Virgin Islands and people like you.

In addition, we have several projects for which we are continually saving, including the replacement of both rescue boats (which are in the region of 15 years old) and the construction of a new boat house for our base on Virgin Gorda. Together, these require us to raise several hundred thousand dollars.

Funding for VISAR comes through five distinct sources: Membership Subscriptions, Donations, Company Sponsorship, the Dollar per Person Campaign and Fundraising events.

VISAR values the contribution which its members make to fundraising greatly. In addition, all members receive a VISAR decal for your vehicle, and the right to attend and vote at general meetings of the Company. You will also receive notice of fundraising events and drives.

We offer five categories of Membership:

Donations form a critical part of our fundraising efforts each year, and whether you are a VISAR member or not, every donation made goes towards the maintenance, development and improvement of our SAR capabilities.

VISAR's Company Sponsorship Programme is a three year commitment to supporting VISAR's operations. Some companies are the providers of goods or services that allow for their sponsorship to be "in kind" rather than a straight monetary donation, others choose to make their sponsorship a mixture of the two, and others wishing to support VISAR do not offer products that VISAR need, and so make their donations as a straight contribution of funds.

VISAR offers three levels of Company Sponsorship Programme, each requiring a three-year commitment to support VISAR's operations.

Residents and taxpayers of the United States and the United Kingdom can support VISAR indirectly by donating to relevant charities, which may enable you to claim a tax deduction. Note however, that there is no guarantee that your donation will come to VISAR, as each of the charities can only undertake to do it's best to honour your wishes. VISAR has worked together with the charter boat industry in the British Virgin Islands to implement a scheme whereby every visitor for a charter holiday afloat is asked to help by making a donation of one dollar per person. The scheme continues to generate a significant sum each year, and VISAR is grateful to each of the charter companies who take part in the scheme.
